Challenge
A leading wholesale baker and distributor of fresh baked goods in the United States, with deliveries to a few hundred thousand food outlets on over 6,000 delivery routes, had made an investment in routing software prior to engaging with Agilis. When the routing software was up and running, they discovered discrepancies between the customer addresses in their database and the actual location of the delivery sites. With increasing fuel costs and customer service goals high, the company needed a way to update their customer database and pinpoint the exact location of each customer, in order for the routing software to create accurate routes.
Solution
Agilis Systems teamed up with the distributor to create a quick and tailored solution to meet all of their needs. Using Agilis Systems’ SmartWORKS™ software, the company was able to record the GPS coordinates of each store for more precise mapping and create an accurate snapshot of current routes. The company currently utilizes 100 mobile handsets to go cross-country, market to market, driver to driver, quickly updating every customer’s information on every route. The updates then allow them to obtain more accurate and efficient routes from the routing software. The handsets are also equipped with Agilis’ SmartFORMS™. Using SmartFORMS, the company created 3 forms with over 80 fields so that drivers can capture updated customer information, service availability and preferred delivery time windows. The data is then sent in real-time to the Agilis dispatching site, where it is immediately available for uploading into the back-office system and routing software.
Results
Agilis Systems enabled this distribution company to efficiently and inexpensively update their customer database with coordinate information, increasing the effectiveness and usefulness of their routing software. With the exact coordinates of each delivery site added to their customer database, the routing software was able to create the most accurate and efficient routes for their drivers, shortening time spent en route and reducing mileage by an average of 10%.
